Mental Health and physical fitness are increasingly recognized as interconnected aspects of overall well being. Nearly more than 15% of India’s adult population is suffering from common mental disorders such as anxiety and depression due to societal pressures, workplace stress, and lifestyle changes. In parallel, physical health concerns such as poor diets, lifestyle changes, and the prevalence of chronic diseases add to the country health challenges.
Key issues affecting Mental Health and Fitness in India:
- Stigma: Mental health issues are still taboo, making it difficult for individuals(especially men) to seek help openly.
- Workplace Stress: Extended working hours and increased job demands lead to burnout and stress.
- Lifestyle Related Disorder: Rising cases of cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, and diabetes due to sedentary lifestyles.
Promoting Regular Physical Activity: The impact of exercise on mental health is equally significant contrary to what people say that exercise is just about losing weight. Several studies show that regular exercise can improve mood in people with depression. Exercise helps in releasing endorphins, a chemical that improves body’s immunity, reduces pain and improves mood. Furthermore, exercise not only bolsters mental health but enhances well being.
Seek Help when Needed:Counseling or therapy can provide invaluable support during difficult times. It’s essential to seek professional help when mental health feels unmanageable.
Always remember a sound body leads to a sound mind. Prioritize regular exercise and incorporate movements in our daily lives
